  1. Pleurotus Ostreatus, also known as Oyster mushrooms are relatively low in calories. In 100 grams of the mushroom only contains about 33 calories.
  2. Oyster mushrooms contains an enzyme inhibitor substance called mevinolin which in research decreased cholesterol biosynthesis by inhibiting HMG CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. [source]

Pleuran is a unique insoluble β-glucan that is isolated from Oyster mushrooms and has been shown to bolster the body's immune response against upper respiratory tract infections [source], act as an antiviral [source] and is effective in the treatment and also prevention of allergic diseases [source]. β-glucan derived from Pleurotus ostreatus in clinical research has also shown to improve damaged skin cells [source].
  4. Certain protein polysaccharides in the oyster mushroom has been found to have anti-hyperglycemic, anti-soft tissue tumor, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive effects in the experimental animal studies.
  5. In the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), oyster fungus is known to dispel cold wind, relax tendons and bones and strengthen yang. It is indicated to treat impotence, weakness of joints and limbs, and backache problems.
  6. Oyster mushrooms have relatively high amounts of quality protein as compared to many other cultivated mushrooms.
  7. Fresh Oyster fungus is an excellent source of folic acid (38 μg 9.5% per 100 g).
  8. Further, they contain ample concentrations of other B-complex group of vitamins like thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, etc.
  9. Minerals such as copper, iron, phosphorus present in moderate levels in this mushroom.
  10. Oyster mushrooms are modest sources of vitamin-D (ergo-calciferol) at 29 μg per 100 g (7% of DA). Vitamin-D plays a vital role in the calcium and phosphate metabolism.
