Session #3 Soil Health & Structure

Soil is more than just dirt—it's a living, breathing ecosystem essential to plant success. In this session, beginner gardeners will build a deeper understanding of what makes soil fertile, how its components interact, and how to recognize healthy soil using their senses. Participants will also explore the essential roles that microbes, fungi, and other organisms play in supporting plant health. With a focus on the soils typical of this growing region, the class equips students to protect and improve their garden’s foundation—naturally and intentionally.
